t5 vs power compacts

I startd this thread because I really dont know what are the advantages of t5 over power compacts. I am about to buy the jebo 24" 2006 editoin for my 30 gallon tank but because everyone seems to be talking about t5s in this forum, I jsut want to ask what really is best. Also, What do you think about this jebo 24" high compact aquarium lighting. The one im looking at is the 130 watts total output from two bulbs. Does anyone have experience with this?

t5ho have more PAR (light useable by corals) with proper reflectors than PC, the bulbs last longer, they produce less heat, and you will use less electricity to boot when using t5ho vs PC.

back to the PAR part, this allows you to keep higher light corals and clams.

I have PC's over my planted tank (with a nice reflector) and T5's on the reef tank. Horkn hit the nail on the head with regards to T5's outperforming PC's. When selecting T5's, it is important to get good reflectors to take advantage of the lighting. If not, then they are no better than PC's. I have TEK lighting fixtures, but if you feel you would rather do some wiring yourself, reefgeek sells retro kits that give you a bit more for your money.

I bought a 4x54W 48" retrofit kit from reefgeek, and am very pleased with it. The kit is a pretty good value especially since it comes with the bulbs. I was a little lost when putting it together at first, but once reefgeek emailed me instructions I was good to go.

I am actually looking not to spend too much on this lights because I plan on upgrading my 30 gallon nano. Right now im looking at two brands. Coralife aqualight t5 24" and the jebo odyssey t5 24". Which on eis better and what is wrong with the jebo? The 30 gallon tank will only have mushrooms and few brain corals. Thanks

Go Coralife or look at the Finnex T5 setup that Premium Aquatics sells. Coralife is a reputable manufacturer and Premium Aquatics is a very good vendor who will stand behind the Finnex product.

There are quality control issues with some of Jebo's equipment and one major vendor of their products is among the worst in the business when it comes to customer service.
