T5's and Zoas

I have a question for all of you keeping zoas under T5's. Do your zoas keep their bright colors and have that metallic shine? I have a couple of zoas that came from MH tanks and then after a couple of weeks they have lost their color. For example I have some Darth Mauls that lost a lot of color but are growing, which I am very happy about.

So is it possible for zoas to reach their full potential under T5's? Feel free to share pictures.

I've bought zoas from my LFS that were under halides, and visibly improved under my PC lighting, so I'd say that they could definitely improve under T5's. Sadly, my crappy PC's are now over a year old and quickly losing PAR. Time to upgrade!

I know what you mean, some zoas like lower lighting (like tubs blues). However, I believe most of the reds, oranges, and greens look best under high lighting. Some zoas seem to like almost as much light as sps.

yes you are correct but that is like a sudden change in lighting intensity (PAR) so they need sometime to adjust accordingly.

mine always look better under my t5s after they get used to my tank. some zoas are found in very shallow water so those seem to like higher lighting

I changed out my lighting from the t5 to 3 250w mh's and 8 actinics and many of my zoas regained their original color

i have t-5s and all of my zoos are doing really good ,my fire and ice are spreding im seeing 1 new polyp per week and a half or so i dont know if thats average or what but they werent doing that in my biocube so im happy

When I first changed to T5, I had some problems with color. With some advise from others, I moved those colonies lower or to more shaded areas until they adjusted to the greater par. Once they adjusted, things worked out well.

Mine do well under the T5's and have their metallic shine. Just like any other light source though, how far the corals are from the lights & what the bulb color temp's are play a huge role.

I have had great luck with my t-5s some definately like lower light than others, I p/u some red wine palys from a local guy and liked to burned them till I moved them under a little overhang and now doing well. it just takes some time for them to adjust if going from one to the other. I have also played around with bulbs and it makes a difference which bulbs you run. Grimreefer really helped me out in the t-5 thread, actually a couple of times. :)
