Tail spot blenny

Are these not the most amazing fish ever? :inlove: What a personality! Plus, it demolishes all traces of hair algae in my tank.

Anyone have stories to share concerning them?

I just got one today and have no idea where he is!! He must be hiding in a crevice somewhere :/ how long did it take for yours to come out?

My favorite fish. See my avatar. Great personality. I have had mine for a couple of years. It hid the first day but has been very bold ever since. Last month, it jumped into the overflow. It was pretty easy to rescue. If you can't find him in the next day or so, check the overflow.

My kids love this fish also. One of the only fish they named... Benny the Blenny, of course.

Mine's pretty reclusive. Had him for 6+ months, maybe more, and I see him swimming out in the tank he doesn't see me. But when I walk up to the tank he goes straight up in his hiding place. That, coupled with a yellow assessor as the only 2 fish in my tank, I don't see a lot of activity! I think I need some more outward fish.

Mine picks at rocks all day long. He has a couple of hangouts where he sits with his head out looking around. He aggressively goes after flake food and doesn't seem to worry about me or any of the other fish.

Mine seems to be always hungry, maybe that is the difference. He has to be out foraging or he'll starve. I don't have that much algae in the tank and I feed very light.

Lenny the Blenny here. Not a creative bunch, eh?

Mine was pretty reclusive for a while as well. I started feeding more often since I got a CBB, and now the blenny swims out when it sees me, expecting food. I love my little guy.

The overflow is not possible as I have a lid and I have 1/4" screens on my tank so no accidents will happen here! I think he is just hiding out in a rock somewhere as I have pukani so I have so many crevices and hide-outs. I really hope I see him soon! he's such a baby too maybe 1"

I like the idea of covering the overflow top with screen material, good idea. I will add that to my tank. Thanks.

My blenny was 1.5" when I got him. Never seen one as small as yours. That might explain the lack of confidence in being out in the open. Maybe once he starts coming out you could post a picture?

Yeah, will do! Oh and I don't have screen on my overflow, I have an acrylic sheet I cut to fit. I have screens on my tank though. I hope he comes out soon! I want to see his cute face!!

yay! My tailspot blenny came out today!! I saw him munching some algae off a rock on the backside of my tank of course. Hopefully he'll move holes lol.

Maybe try some flake food in the front of the tank. Mine always stays where he can see the front to look for someone coming to add some food. Most of his diet seems to be algae but he loves the Ocean Nutrition Formula Two flakes.

Here he is:

These picture are probably over two years old, but he looks the same. Just a little fatter and my tank no longer has much algae. He helped with that but, lowering nutrients helped even more.

My tailspot came to me at about 1/2 inch. He was a tiny little thing, hid in a patch of dictyota and I couldn't see him for the longest time. Now he's almost 2 inches and always checking things out. One of my favorite fish.

Mine acts the same although he prefers the picking at algae on the glass instead of rocks. He is very assertive during feeding time and competes for food just fine with a bunch of wrasses.

Keep in mind that they have small mouths. I've seen mine spit out chopped up mysis. Ground up flake and cyclopeeze are probably the best bets.

Yay mine came out! Grabbed some pics

So today my tailspot blenny was up front and center in my tank. Thank goodness. He seems to like the little ledge of the rock in the front. He ate some small NLS pellets and rod's food happily.

I dig these fish a ton. Mine was fairly large when I got him and it only took a day or two for him to warm up to his environment. Now he really enjoys schooling with my clownfish.

I'm glad to see these fish are more popular than I had originally thought.
