tailspot blenny rubbing scales against rock, problem?

just today m tailspot blenny is rubbing the right side of its body against the rock. So much that the scales look faded.
My PH is 8.15
amonia is: zero
nitrate is:zero
nitrite is:zero

what could be the problem?
 
Ich is the first thing that pops into my head when i see a fish do an unusual scratch on anything. Take a close look and keep an eye on it...
 
the only thing that changed with my tank is i added two cleaner shrimps to the tank. could they be eratating the fish?
 
irritating! is how the word is spelled! I should know. I've been described that way many times! there's a spell check built into the site for heaven's sake!!!

While you're correcting other people's spelling, you might want to check your own signature info. Anyways...

How long have you had your blenny? You quarantine your fish before they go into the display?
 
While its strange, its not un-heard of. Ich pops up, usually a result of added stress/poor nutrition or just having a weaker than normal fish.
 
May be a fungus. Ask your local store what they have to add to his food to combat this. Also pick up some selcon. Just added vitamins. They always help in keeping the health of the fish up
 
blenny died :-( couldnt find it in the tank. I took out all the rock. ( it's a 26 gal.) I will have to do water changes if I see a amonia spike.

BTW, I have two fire fish in the tank also. The slightly bigger one is ripping the other one to shreds. Is this because they are the only fish in the tank? I thought they were peaceful towards each other.

No, fire-fish aren't peaceful towards each other, so I am not surprised at all by this.
 
+1 on the firefish and do a water change anyway. Moving the rock stirred up the debris in the tank. That would harm your current livestock worse than a fish being eaten by your cleanup crew
 
I did a water change right after moving the rock around ;-) all my corals opened up even more, yes!

I am just concerned that they will fight to the death??

Also, these guys feed on mysis only. I figure the best way to train them how to eat flakes is to soak in garlic??

I'm pretty sure they will end up killing each other, or at least one will go. My firefish eats New Life Spectrum small pellets and anything else that will fit in his mouth, but every fish is different. You may have to get him on pellets before he'll take flakes. Just my experience.
