Take a look at my Rainbow Monti

erock68

It costs how much?
Is this possibly due to excess nutrients? I battled cyano, and have finally rid the tank of it. I have changed my food type and recently added new lighting. This started happening before the new lights. Running 6 T5's. All my tests come out fine but my calcium is a bit high. Using all Salifert kits.

My other Monti frags are attaching to the LR, still have their color. This is still attaching but color gone:

From what I see in the pic, my 1st guess would be a high nutrient issue with the water. What are your N03 and P04 readings at? My rainbow monti is really touchy to any swings in parameters also, but it usually bleaches. Yours is browned out which normally indicates high nutients or poor lighting. How old are the lights?

Mine reacts the same way to alk swings. It is the most sensitive in my tank to alk swings. It will recover rather quickly once things get stabilized. so the solution would be to test and bring your parameters in line and leave them there. good luck!

All bulbs are less than 2 months old, all ATI: 2 AquaBlue Special, 2 Blue Plus, 1 True Actinic, 1 Purple Plus. Have been running 6 hr on, since tank cycle (7 months ago) Any recent changes, would be a new T5 fixture, that has 8 moonlight LED's.

Nitrates/Nitrites:0, Phos:0, KH:9.6, Ca:0.02/490, Salinity: 1.024, PH: 8.0, Temp: steady at 79.0. Using Reef Crystals since setup. Water changes 10 gal every weekend. No dosing.

All other coral & fish are doing great. Have recently had an outbreak of Diatoms. Just on Pukani LR, not much on the sand:

That may be something. Diatom outbreak? Is waterchange water RO/DI, and if so, how old are the cartridges. Other then that, if the water parameters are testing good and remaining stable(esp alk), I don't know. I know my rainbow is really touchy while other corals do fine.

I just went through the exact same thing. I changed my Radions to 10k and had a diatom outbreak. My Superman Monti looked like it was dusted with diatoms; loosing most of the color and just blah.
In a very short period of time the coral began looking like it's old self, particularly around the edges. Just hang in there and be patient. Your Monti will come back.

Water change with RO/DI only. Same when I first filled tank, never tap. Use a BRS 5 Stage and my TDS reads 0 out. (1 in)

Answering questions:

Yes, it was a frag. Got it from a friend, who also gave me my Sunset, which is doing great. Put both in tank at the same time.
