I know you can buy the inserts to put gfo and carbon in to a ro unit and make it like a brs dual reactor.

My question, is there away of using a old r/o unit and not having to get these inserts?

I am trying to be creative and use what I have and see if It can be done with out having to buy the inserts.

If i was to put sponges in the top and bottom kinda like a tlf reactor would that work?

I would be running gfo and carbon

Thanks

You need the inserts. Water enters and exits at the top of the RO canister. Without the insert, there's nothing forcing that water to go down or up through your media.

FWIW - A while back I tried using a RODI 10" canister and found that the 1/4" input/output was too small and getting enough flow was hard to make happen. Also, as stated in prior post, you do need the canister insert for it to work properly. IMO you are better off just buying the reactor setup and forgoing trying to use the RODI canister.

I don't see why you can't buy refillable inserts. .. my di canister is refillable. ..I see no reason I couldn't put gfo or gac in it
