Taking good pix: How?

My 3rd post for the day. I think I have the basics down--I take at an angle to avoid flash reflection, I stand back a few feet and use my digital zoom to close in. I can get good details on my tanks.
I CAN'T get these rich colors i'm seeing in others pix. Thanks!

flash causes alot of color to be washed out, i never take aquarium pictures with flash.

darken the room so there is no reflection on the glass, turn on all the lights in the tank and clean the front glass.

many people use photoshop to adjust and correct various aspects of the image.

anyone else got tips?

if you can adjust the white effect on your camera try doing that by forst taking a pic of your sand or even a wall and then set that as the true white setting

Don't use digital zoom it reduces the quality of the picture.. only use optical zoom.
Adjust your white balance as mister crabs said.
Adjust your brightness, or my camera calls it EV Shift.
Lastly, to take good pictures, buy a good camera :)

Ha! All good advice. I have a digital cannon powershot about a year old, very nice for one of the point and shoot digitals. I'm pretty sure I just need to learn what to do with it to get good shots. Thanks all for thoughts so far--will give it a shot!

Oh, always keep it on Macro focus whether you're taking macro shots or not.. it has always worked well for me.
