Thank you for your input but I had already read that. I was just asking "Liverock" his opinion about whether I should go ahead and order now or wait.

I do not see us harvesting any gulf rock anytime soon, as we have killer live rock growing in the Keys and that is where we are harvesting now due to the continued red tide .

In fact Mark is on the way down there right now for the 750 mile round trip to the Keys get us a load of rock, he should be back Thursday if all goes well!

Please compare Keys and Gulf rock.

Please compare Keys and Gulf rock.

How does the Keys rock compare to the Gulf rock? Is there anything on the Gulf rock that is not on the Keys rock? What is on the Keys rock? Are there any clams, sponges, or corals on the Keys rock? Thanks for your help in this matter.

Yes...I'd love to know too. I filled up a form but didn't hear from anybody. It's been two weeks, should I do another form?

Keys rock

Keys rock

Little Red,

I just received my second shipment of rock for my 250 gallon reef from TBS. The first shipment was gulf rock and we were thrilled with it. With the unfortunate timing of the red tide we waited and waited for the gulf rock to become available again. Our construction project was nearing completion so we decided to take the keys rock and live with it. Let me tell you we were equally pleased with the keys rock as the gulf rock. It does have a slightly different look but it is amazing. We even got a hitchiker that we werent counting on. An approximately 10" to 12" long eel. What a surprise.

Ill be happy to send you pics of my tank with just the gulf rock and with both. Im not sure Im smart enough to post them here.

I would love to see pictures of both rock. I can give you my e-mail address if you can figure out how to send pictures here. Just let me know and I will watch for another post from you. I was disappointed that we would not be able to get the gulf rock but after hearing from you, I'm really quite excited again. Thanks

Good news!

Just heard from Mark, he was able to dive today in the Keys and get a load of rock!

He said it was really rough seas as a new tropical storm is forming just south of Cuba, so we hit the one day window we had to dive.

Now he has to make the white knuckle 360 mile drive home with the 5000 pound boat and trailer loaded with 1000 pounds of rock and about 600 pounds of water on it, up I-75 from the Keys to Tampa.

I have made that trip a zillion times, and let me tell you it is a real tough drive hauling that much weight with all the crazy drivers on the interstate.

We will begin shipping this rock monday!

Thanks

There will be no Gulf rock until next year at the soonest.....the red tide is still here and growing, now it is all the way up in the Panhandle, Panama city had a huge outbreak and fish kill yesterday.

Well I got my keys rock on monday and I am very pleased with it. I have gulf rock in my nano. There are really pretty sponges on it that have survived. I got a really pretty flower anomene, tons of cup corals, and tube coral colony. And to liven up the deal my ammonia is very minimal on day 4.

I also got an urchin and a brittle star that are all doing well, so far. Can't wait for the second half of my shipment.
