i had a rock with some red mushrooms on them now its covered and they are taking over my tank.they keep falling off and are attacing to every other rock in my tank. what can i do to get them under controle before they start to hurt other corals

Howdy!

Do you have a Latin name or a Pic. of these mushroms?

Would think that simply removing the "dropoffs" by hand and if they are not regarded as pest, someone might be willing to trade with you or some???.

Best regards J. Animal

no i dont have a latin name for them they are red with darker red spots. i hav etryed catching the drop offs but i mean there is prob over 50 on the rock. you can se the rock at all. and the prob is the drop off at night and when i come home form work they found another rock in the tank to go on went from one rock with then to just about every rock and i dont want then to sting and cause a war with other corals.

Mushrooms will spread like that as well, and I have never seen/heard of red aptasia, but a picture would probably clear things up. You could try 'pruning' about 50% of the mushrooms off the rock they are on, then placing them in a shallow dish of crushed coral covered by netting for a few weeks until they attach, then gluing them to rocks/shells/plugs and selling/trading them. If the mushrooms have room to expand on the rock they are on, they may stop dropping off to spread? (This is a theory, but it seems plausible.)
