Talk to me about Turbinari Reniformis

Hi,
Tubinaria reniformis an easy coral. The hardest thing is to place it where detritus can't build up in the center. I have mine placed where a Sea Swirl passes over the top of it.
Very cool coral.

Kevin

That is a beautiful colony. Good to know that it isn't that difficult. I've had all sorts of sps but never given this coral a thought until I saw this big colony as the moody gardens aquarium in galveston.

Think it's a LPS isn't it?

Who cares? there is no scientific terminology that would distinguish corals between LPS and SPS.

i got this speciemen as the first coral in my latest tank, really unusual too look at, it is however pretty demanding, as you can see it has no PE in this photo, much better now as i adjusted my flow to suit its needs better, its right under my halides and getting direct flow from my return.

one thing to consider, the tissue dies very easily from handling around the rim, so be extra careful.

The scroll is an easy coral-- I acquired a tiny frag the size of a quarter and it grew up to wallet-size in 6 months. B-Ionic was my only supplement back then.

Sounds like the verdict is still out, some are easy and some are not.
DaddyJax and kevinPo appear to have differant species than lux_06 has.

Daddyjax..... man I love that peice. A friend of mine has the same one.... he wont frag it yet. But I told him I'm in line....haha

xtm- i laughed when I read your post, because i too describe sizes of item in my aquarium compared to monetary and financial reference- ie- it is dollar bill sized, or quarter sized, etc.

ironic, huh?

well, i digress- the biggest issue ive sen with reniformis is dteritus buildup (as mentioned), which can cause tissue die off (as mentioned), and onec/if algae sets in, it negatively effects the whole colony. the moral is, keep your reniformis clean.
