My yellow tang has developed some fin rot. Other than that he looks and acts fine. All of the other fish are fine and have hearty appetites. I have not introduced anything new into the tank and his rot seems to be getting worse. Any ideas?
Fin rot is usually a bacterial problem ... in some cases it will clear up on its own if your improve water quality. If you don't see improvement then use of an antibiotic within a QT environment may be needed. A double dose of maracyn 2 in a QT should help clear things up.
Some individuals have reported success using Melafix which contains a tea tree extract which is suppose to have characteristics similar to a mild antibiotic -- this is suppose to be safe for use in a ST .... I have no personal experience using Melafix.
