Tang Health Issue

I have an issue with my tangs heath. I have had this tang for 2 years but over that past year or so he has lost some of his fins. It has not changed in the last 6 months but if there is something I can do to help this poor guy I would sure like too. The tank has non-aggressive fish that all get along. I have attached a picture so you can see what the tang currently looks like.

Nori and Mysis shrimp with Selcon added. I did not feed the tang algae in the beginning and I think that was the reason for the start of his issue.

This tang is very thin and has a severe case of fin rot. I would run him through a course of antibiotics (Furan-2) in a hospital tank, and then try to address the root of the problem. This can occur as a result of poor husbandry (diet, water quality, tankmates, etc). Diet is likely the culprit here. Tangs need seaweed, or seaweed based foods daily, and you will want to vary the menu far beyond just nori and mysis. Try to rotate his feeding schedule through different frozen foods, a good quality flake and pellet (I like hikari seaweed extreme and NLS pellets), and red/green/purple/brown nori.

Yellow tangs can bounce back from this degree if fin rot with TLC, but sometimes the fins are just too damaged and the dorsal/ventral spines won't grow back. You can still have a healthy happy fish though.

Here are some pictures of a couple of yellow tangs that I rescued from Petco last February, and their progress.

Day 7, after Furan-2 treatment:

3 months later:

And what they look like now:

As you can see, one almost complete recovered - but has some bent dorsal spines and still looks a little off. The other one regenerated his tail but the other fins were too damaged, he is quite fat and seems happy despite his disabilities.

Somehow I can't seem to understand how this fish has survived 2 years and your concerned now? Sorry to be so blunt but if it got this bad under your care I doubt you have the means to save it.

REA17: Thank you for your advice and pictures. Looks like antibiotics and a more varied diet is in order.

Psionicdragon: All my water parameters are good. Looks like REA17 has the answer.

Kudos to you Rea17 for using your time and money to rescue those fish. The longer I'm in this hobby the more disgusted I get when I see how much fish get viewed as a commodity and not as as pets. It's very nice to see someone like you doing something like this.
