Tang in 70 gallon tank?

I have a fluval Osaka 260l that has 70lbs of live rock and 80lbs of live sand. Have a fluval 496 canister that I run with just chemi pure carbon. In the process of adding a sump. I will be using a tunze 9006 protein.

The tank is 41" wide. I keep hearing that they need at least a 4ft wide tank.

Are there any tangs that would do fine in my tank. I am looking at the kole tang and any of the bristletooth tangs.

I would be adding this fish last.

If I can't get a tang, what other fish would work well for my set up?

My plan is too have a few small fish and 1 fish that got a little bigger than all the others.

My current livestock:
2 true perculas
1 green chromis
1 lawnmower blenny
2 wheeler gobies
1 hectors goby

2 cleaner shrimp
4 turbo snails
4 electric blue hermit crabs
8 assorted small hermit crabs

Honestly, not really. People have had some luck but no guarantees. So if you do decide to get a smaller species tang, dont be surprised if you have to find it a new home.

I have a Tomini in my four foot 60 gallon tank and he's doing great! He's turned into a beautiful fish with his yellow/orange fins and white tail. He gets along with everybody, but he doesn't take any bullying from the Flame Angel, which puts her in her place very nicely.

No tang long term in 70 gallon. It's better to stock with fish that can love out their lives in the tank you have.

I would look at the sticky at the begining of this thread on size tanks for tangs. I agree with most everyone, tanks not long enough.

Just a thought, I see a lot of people talking about sizes of tanks needed to house whatever fish, but i see little consideration for how long it will actually take that fish to get too big for the tank. Given the nature of the hobby, people either give up/lose interest or life happens, and they get rid of their stuff including livestock after a few month - couple years or they stick with it for decades, and constantly upgrade every time money allows. Seems like there is little variation from that trend. How long does it actually take for a tiny little 3" tang i see at the pet shop, to get too big for a 70 gallon tank? A year? Two years? More? If the person sticks with the hobby long enough for the fish to outgrow the tank, but they have no plans for upgrading, fish can always be given new homes. Someone said pick a tank where they can live out their life. In the wild most fish I'm aware of will live in many places, is it really necessary to never move a fish from aquarium to aquarium? Somehow i doubt it.....they might take a bit to get used to the change but ultimately they should be fine.

In my 40 breeder 36"/18"/16" I have a small blue tang(about 1.5")

I've had him for about 6 months and he's grown less then a quarter inch. Doing fine. My guess it'll take him another year to get up to about 2-2.5 inches when I'll take him back to LFS. I know most people won't agree with me on this one, but he's fine. And in all honesty a 1 inch blue tang would get the crud beating out of him in a much larger tank.

So if you decide to go this route make sure your LFS will take back livestock, my LFS does and gives me 75% store credit for what they would sell it for.

Also Regal Tangs are the only tangs I've found small at my LFS everything else is over 2 inches.

Good luck!
