Well, getting wc fish beingf the crapshoot that it is, my Tomini Tang just up and died - can you believe it! Water specs are right on, everyone else is healthy, his body bore no indications of a problem. I guess the stress of the whole thing got him - which os wierd because he was eating great.........

Is a tang an important fish to have? I would have thuoght so for algae control. Does anyone have an opinion on just how importan they are? I have a foxface and an angel, too. THe angel will eat algae off the glass but the foxface does not do so very often. I would like to help the corals establish themselves by using a fish to really eliminate the algae on the LR.

If you were getting a tang for a 75, which one would you get and why? I really don;t want a yellow tang......... it reminds of a yellow lab from my fw days.

Tang?

Tang?

I have quite a few but then mine is bigger than yours.
When asked my LFS guy claimed a Chevron was best for eating algae. He does do alot of scraping all over but they are expensive and not colorful when adults.
Because of the similarity of the mouth I would say a Kole tang would be a good choice if you have to have a tang but you can get along without too. Your choice there.

Bob,

I have a Kole, Tomini, Chevron & Powder Blue in my tank and all have fared well.
I would say that the Chevron and Kole are the best algae scrapers out of the group. Most are peaceful but the powder blue is the exception.

Are they helpful? Yes, they forage on your rockwork and aid the snails in controlling algae growth. Without a bristle mouth, I would most likely need to double the amount of snails in which there are about 100 already.
Downside is that they are high contributors to your detritus load. Basically, they crap alot

think warren broke all the tang rules. i have a 6 inch powder blue tang, naso tang 6", 5" blue hippo tang, 5" yellow tang, and a 3" atlantic blue tang in a 90 gallon. all are doing fine and getting alone great. only thing is it does require more maintence to keep the tank nice and clean. yes there are about seven other fish in there as well.

tsk tsk.

I think a yellow eyed kole tank is a fantastic choice. Smallish, mellow, with great personality.

I got mine from petco believe it or not. :)

I'll probably look for a Kole, thanks. tangs are pretty awesome as a rule, but I don;t want to chance Aquarium Armageddon......

If anyone has astrong feeling on the best place to get one, please pm me. I am very scared of getting ich in the tank and I have had tons of trouble with my QT. If there's a reputable place and I can do a quick dip...... Thx.
