Tang Question

Has anyone kept a yellow tang and a yellow eyed Kole together? I already have the yellow and am thinking of adding the Kole. I know this might get the tang police's attention so I will preface this question with the fact that my tank is a 4 ft system with lots of swimming space, my Yellow gets up to a good swimming speed.

If possible, I would sump the yellow for a few days until the kole is settled in. Yellows are much nicer to fish when they're already there. :)

^^ agreed my yellow is pretty mean in the begginning but all aggression subsides within a week. most of it within a couple days.

Yeah, he does that with ALL of my new fish. Harass them for a couple of days then everything is all good. He is not a huge yellow, about the size of a drink coaster and 5-6 inches long.

arent they different species of tang? i thought they only attack/harass fish that look like them

Tangs can be agressive to all fish. Your chances are far greater if they are the same species/look alike. If he is already aggressive to other fish that aren't even tangs you could have an issue. If you can try and get him out for a couple days like other said then bring him back in.

I personally wouldn't put more than 1 tang in a 4' long tank- full grown yellows can actually get surprisingly large. If I were in your shoes I'd either forgo getting a second tang or would trade the yellow out for the Kole. Actually I like koles better they're less aggressive and stay smaller and fit that size better. I also fancy the tominis too.

Its really your personal choice but in such a small space (not that 90g is a small tank but relatively speaking to their natural environment) putting 2 tangs in is just ill advised.

Not trying to be the tang police either but you wouldn't typically put smaller fish in a tank if they wouldn't get along and/or get eaten, I think in this case it should apply to larger fish. In the longterm it could possibly workout but chances are you'll have 2 stressed fish with shortened lifespans because of it.

I'm still thinking about it but thanks for everyones advice! If I go ahead and do so It will be with the most extreme caution. Luckily my tang has never actuall attacked anything, he just would just get all big and puffy and "I'm a Bad Fish".
