Tang Scalpels

Has there been any documentation on which surgeonfish which have the largest scalpels ?

I mean you'd imagine the larger the surgeonfish, the larger the scalpel, but wouldn't a larger size mean you wouldn't need to use it as much ?


This is just a curious question of general fish anatomy.. now that i think about it

I don't know of any study, but Sohal have large ones; I don't know if they are the largest though.

I have seen alot of tangs and the sohal has by far the largest. They are atleast 2x the size of any other tang. Now the naso tang does not have large ones by any means but they have 2 pairs.

The largest I have seen are on naso tangs. They have 4 very prominent scalpels.

sohal tang gets my vote. We have one where i work with a scalpel 1.5" long, maybe bigger

sohals have big ones and arent afraid to USE them

The clown tang also has some pretty decent sized scalpels. I would guess that it is similar to the sohal tang in that regard.
