my tang below the eye is looks like weathered or scruffed looking. Just on one side..
Is this HLLE and how do I treat it.

Do you have a pic you could post. Could be he scratch it, or hLLE or.... Is he eating? What is he eating? Ect...

I can't get a pic right now, I will try some selcon. It's stress related
He's acting completely normal in terms of eating. He eats what's on the rock and alot of meat.

He wouldn't eat nori when I first got him. I only started to feed that recently, so he is deprived of supplemental veggies.

There is some minor ich on some of the fish right now but he is free of it. I also trapped him a couple days in the cage for a potential buyer but flaked out.. That's when the area look worse.

The ich is probably brought out from the into of the new fish to the tank. The HLLE could of come from the previous owner / store from not feeding him correctly.

I order a purple tang from PETCO online and he came with HLLE. He to was eating fine when intro duce to the tank. Two days later he got ich and so did a few other fish. (NO I did not QT him, that was dumb on me, different topic).

After a week or two, more I would say 2, the HLLE cleared up. Now, if you look close at the Purple Tang, you will see scaring from the HLLE, but like I said it cleared up from a better diet and different food options. I also used Omega flakes with garlic to boost his immune system.

That was 8 months ago and he is doing great!!!

I had it for two years. as for the ich, don't ask.. I am never buying fish from that store ever again. Those new fish I bought looked ok but both died in 5 days.
It was the healthiest fish.. also I started vodka for a month and the algae levels had gone down so maybe he wasn't getting enough veggies.

I managed to take a couple pictures, it's starting to affect the eye ball

HHHmmmmm, the good thing is purple tangs are very tough customers, but cost alot. It just maybe HLLE, just try the selcon with the nori. You can also but the selcon in the water itself. Fish do drink. The selcon will make the skimmer foam go down until it works it way out of the system. Usually an hour or two, no big deal.

However, you have had it for 2 years... so the HLLE should have come on sooner if it had a bad diet. And it just could have a scratch.

Either way the selcon won't hurt at all, just help.

I would also, look at wetwebmedia. That sight is great for fish problems.

Very good pics.

I read one guy felt he made his tang have HLLE dosing vodka.. not sure why. Recently I cleaned up my tank good so the glass and rocks are all bare of algae, maybe that's why. I am going to the pet store tomorrow hopefully can get some selcon so I don't have to mail order.

I agree they are VERY tough so I don't worry too much. It's progressing a bit quickly so I am a little worried now.

He is scratching his face on the rocks so it seems like not hlle Maybe ich is on there and he scratched it to this state himself

Yes, I would agree that maybe he scratch himself. Again, if you had HLLE it would have come on a long time ago, unless you changed his diet. You should still use the selcon to keep his immune system up until he heels up. You just don't want him to get an infection.
