have a yellow tang that i seen rubbing up against rocks.....is this norm or is this start of sickness.....color good, nothing seen on skin, and is active........

Hi, I am new to this site, but I have been working at a LFS for some time. Look at your tang's pectoral fins (the ones behind the eyes) for small white spots. Is the tang new? They are very susceptible to Ich when first introduced, a QT (quarantine tank) is highly recommended for tangs.

yep,,,one side clear, other 3 spots....was in a qt.....guess i have to pull out ALL the fish back to qt and blast w/meds.....ahhhh it never ends............

The shrimp won't carry it. Be sure to leave the display fishless for at least 6 weeks or you'll end up back in the same predicament.

Copper or Hypo are the only proven treatments for Ich. I would use a good copper med. Be careful with the tang as they are very sensitive to copper.

I much prefer hypo. However, if you have copper, try that, just be wary about the amount you add. I feel tangs are just ich magnets, not much can be done about it. They are likely to catch it when stressed. Mine got ich when I first added him to my tank, but after a week, its immune system fought it off, with the help of the cleaner shrimp.

Also you could try soaking your food in Kent’s garlic extreme. More of a natural way to help get rid of Ich.

To help for any future outbreaks of ich I brought down my salinity weight down to .19 like they use in stores.
