Tangs and carbon filtration?

I have a large number of tangs that I love and they look amazing... I have heard and read in some places that It can be "bad" for them and cause hlle or effect their skin?

I have seen plenty of tanks that run carbon and have tangs that look good... Just wanted to see what everyone had experience with.. Im not running carbon yet, but i would like to for I plan On adding a lot more corals and will def help w a mixed reef..
