tangs breeding?

i would like to know if it is possible to breed two hippo tang's. iv have two hippo tangs in my 120 set up. i got them when they where 1/2 long and now are 6in long. iv had them for all most over 2 yeas now and still growing. they get a long well in the the tank. was not sure if i could get them to breed or not. if i can breed how old would they have to be?

i don't think anyone has had success with this (in fact, i know not). It will especially not happen in a 120 gallon system, you'd need 1000s, and even then I don't think it'd happen.

Sorry. If you're interested in breeding try some clowns or cardinals or something. You can find some good info in this forum.

thanks. i wish i could breed them. ill have to breed some clowns. i do have a true pare of clowns ill try. got to keep the hobby going

There have been reports of tangs (not sure if hippos are among them) spawning in public aquariums. From what I understand, they need quite a bit of space "to swim upward." Non of the spawns has been raised in captivity to my knowledge. But I certainly wouldn't assert that I know for a fact.


That said, your's likely aren't mature, nor is the tank large enough... Clowns are supposed to be alot of fun to breed Me, I'm thinking gobies LOL

Tangs don't "pair" up but rather broadcast spawn in groups. To date broadcast spawners have been one of the hardest eggs to crack due to first feeds in most cases.
