Tangs

Every morning when I go and look at my fish tank, I notice that my tangs are completely covered with ick. Usually by the afternoon I notice ick is no longer on the body, and the colors of the tangs are back to normal. FYI... I have the very fine white sand in my tank. It can't be the white sand, since I have a wrasse who sleeps in the sand and by morning it has no white spots on its body. Is this normal for tangs to go through or what can it be? What do I need to do.

The spots you see with ich are the wounds that are made when the parasite exits the fishes skin. They heal during the day and then more come out as the parasite goes through it's cycle. Your fish have ich and it will have to be treated or eventually it will start killing off your fish. There are lots of articles about the life cycle of ich as well as the treatments.
Good Luck,
p

I am not so sure this statement is true...I will probably start an argument with this....However I don't think the crypt will kill a healthy fish. Time will tell for me so I will be sure to let everyone know my outcome. I put all my fish thru QT but some how crypt must have made it to my display because I recently added an achilles hybrid after 8 weeks of QT. And guess what.....He has crypt on him. My other fish in the main tank are fine. This tank is a 300 and has been broken down twice to remove fish and leave the tank fallow. I am not going thru that again so this time whatever happens so be it. If it starts to get to bad I will just call the hobby quits....

So look for my updates as time goes by...............

Everytime I have caught a tang from the DT to treat them, they have always died out of stress. If I was in your shoes, I will leave the fish in the DT as long as they are eating well. Feed them well, like 3 times a day and maintain good water quality. They will eventually overcome the crypt. It's always very good idea to QT your fish before adding them in the DT.

I think, I will just let the fish be then and if it survives then it will, since my other fish are not sick. Its just the tangs that are. Does anyone have this much problem with tangs?

It has been my expirience, that tangs are magnets to the crypt because of their slime coat. I can say that in my tank I have angels, triggers, clowns and a wrasse. Only fish to show crypt is the tang.

There are 2 choices.....manage the ich problem,or eradicate it.
I have both a Hippo and a yellow tang that have never had a spot on them since in my care.QTed and parasite free.

Ok, so to manage the Ich problem what must I do? Must I catch all my fish and put the in the QT or only the sick ones?

If you are going to attempt to keep your system crypt free you must remove and treat all fish. Your tank must stay fishless for 10 weeks or so...
