Tangs

I've been wanting a larger fish for my new tank. I think that I have settled on getting some type of tang (they mostly eat algae, aren't very agressive to other fish for the most part, and many get big, but stay small enough to keep in a 90). I'm just not sure if there is anything I need to know about +/-'s of certain species that I might not get from a book or a 5 sentence blurb on a website. I've never had the opportunity to keep anything this big, so I'm totally new to these fish. Give me some words of wisdom.

I'm leaning toward a powder brown or powder blue because I love the coloring on those, but I'm afraid they might get just a little too big for my 90. I also like the Kole Tangs. Any smaller tangs I might be missing that are cool?

I love the powder browns. I find them much prettier than the blues. Both are very prone to ich though man. The blues don't ship well. Browns not all that much better. Koles are nice as well, and i think ship better than either the brown or blue. I think a 90 would be adequate for most any tang, save maybe a large naso or some of the larger species. The purples are really nice as well. Consider you will probably have to feed nori to keep them really happy. Have you considered some of the larger cirrhilabrus wrasse species? Some of the larger ones get to 5+ inches (jordani, laboutei, linneatus). Always cruisin' the reef. Very active.
Cool fish man. Great community fish given a few parems.

Nice fairy wrasse pics Daniel. I need to check that site out again as I am looking for some.

I would vote for a Yellow or a Kole for easy to keep reasonably priced ones. The brown will stay smaller than the blue and would probably be ok also. Some others that will most likely not run out of room are Atlantic blue, Whitecheek, Chocolate(or mimic), Convict, Indian mimic and Scopas. Most others will get too big IMO.

chevrons are very very nice.. I am also fond of the achilles, but hard to find and supposedly mean. I personally have a Kole and a Purple and both are great in the tank. no issues out of either. the Kole has a bit more of a scrubber mouth and really workes at the glass...both are very active with the purple being the more outgoing. once the Kole got settled, the color was really nice. a deep maroon/burgandy with almost a buring ember color on the outer edges of the fins.

thanks chris. How's it going over there man? All is well? My zoa connection being gone is gonna hurt. If your looking for some decent cirrhilabrus, check out twilightaquatics.com. Brian is a stand up guy.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'm going to go with a Kole because they stay relatively small and I don't want to crowd the fish too much. I was leaning that way from other research I've done. They always say you only ask for advice once you already know what you're going to do.

danieljames... love the wrasses. Was thinking on getting some type of wrasse in the future.

IMO a kole is a great choice:)

All is going well Daniel:)
I'll definately check out twilight. Checked out marine center last night and they seem to have some really nice stuff.
thanks, Chris
