Tank burst

My 265g aquarium bursted open this morning unfortunately. I have moved all of my livestock to a 125, but I don't have a filter to run it. Does anyone know of a lfs that would rent one? I'm supposed to be getting my replacement tank Wednesday. If you want to let something go for cheap please let me know. I'm just looking to run some filter floss and carbon short term.

Also, has anyone gone through a Marineland warranty process? Looking for some pointers or maybe what they'll reimburse. Tank is less than a year old.

Thanks

I have a floval 304 you can borrow if it helps. I use it mainly for my QT tank. I have carbon and some bio media in it.

Will

This just happened to me a few months ago with my 220. I didnt call marineland because I didnt want another tank from them. This happens all the time with these tanks and I dont recommend getting another one.

I mean, I have to get a new tank. What do you recommend doing?

Buy from literally anyone else. I know that the number of failures is in part due simply to volume, but I've heard the "my Marineland just blew a seam" story far too many times to think it is just that. I'd file a claim with them just out of principal. But I'd sell the new tank and get something that I wouldn't have to worry about.

Just a quick question were either of you using wave makers or mp 40-60 in pulse mode? I guess these tanks just aren't built for these kinds of turbulence the pumps throw out....

I sincerely doubt that is it. It's more a product of them making tanks that are far too deep for the style of construction they use. If I remember I'll take a picture of the 500g I'm installing tomorrow, deep tanks (anything 18" or greater) require more reinforcement and thinker glass that equal volume tanks of a larger footprint.

The tank I had blew out on the bottom, after demolishing it, I would have to say the silicone was the culprit on my tank. There were many spots where it little effort to pull the joint apart. I do believe there should be more bracing on the bottom as well.

That's what I was told from Miricles is that a lot of there failures come from design flaw, they are just not meant for strong lateral flow that's changing all the time, just more of a constant flow... I have always had my tanks made from Great Lakes aquariums, the new tank I just setup is from miracles it's a 560 10' by 36" by 30"

I was actually using a rw-15 on else mode (pulse) although it's not much for that size tank. I'll probably get the replacement tank out of principle like you mentioned. I'll have to consider whether or not to set it up. Any recommendations on tank brands? I was looking at glass cages but haven't heard the best things about them either.

Not sure of your budget but

Miracles
Coast to Coast
Reef Savvy

All well known for making top end aquariums, but you will pay more.

Glass cages would be my second to last choice :lolspin:
miracles, reef savvy, or aquarium masters are my personal favorites.

I have 3 Glass Cages tanks. While not comparable to a Miracles tank, they are built like tanks vs standard off the shelf Marineland & Aqueon and you do have the option to replace panels with low iron glass at an upgrade cost. Euro bracing top and bottom allows no center braces for my 6ft tank which is nice.
If I had the funds, I would always go with a Miracles tank with an exterior overflow :)

If you are in a hurry I would not get a reef savvy. A buddy waited a year to finally get his reef savvy tank. [emoji3]

Jeez, I didn't realize marineland tanks had so many issues. I'll have to consider some options. Either way, the fish can't stay in the 125 for long

Reefing is not for the faint-hearted. LOL. I just bought a used ELOS and guess what... someone had a 160XL come apart at the seam as well. All we can do is hope for the best. Good luck!

CTARS member up here just had an Elos 200 XL's front seam fail also. Elos did not honor the warranty and offered to send the guy a tube of silicone.
