tank??clown fry??

clowns have laid 4 or 5 batches of eggs, so we are going to attempt to raise a batch. Picked up a tank today and I am concerned about the filter sucking up the babies or the rotifers. The new tank is a Oceanic Bio Cube(figured if raising clowns is a failure it would make a great nano tank) Any suggestions..Should I put some type of mesh over the holes that go into the filter system?

Basically, in a larval tank you do not use a filter. You will be "the filter" by doing water changes and syphoning the bottom of the tank. A larval tank should consist of a heater with the pilot light blacked out and an airstone. Also, three of the four sides should be blacked out and the bottom should be white. That roughly sums up what you will read in the book, but Kathy is right, Joyce gets way more in depth and if you are serious about attempting this hobby, you should get a copy.

What is the reasoning for blacking out the heater light, and 3 sides, and bottom being white?

Reason for blocking the heater light is cause clown fry are attracted to light. fry attracted to pilot light= fried fry. 3 sides should be BLACKED out and bottom white because the babies do not have great eyesight and this aides them in seeing their food.
