Tank Cover ??

What are people using to cover their tanks to keep from loosing fish?
I have Eurobraced 120 with a canopy.
I am considering getting a jawfish, so I know some kind of cover will be needed.

I want something that is not going to reduce light to the tank or keep heat in.

What are my options?

A jawfish can easily slip through the egg crate. +1 to Slice's suggestion. Just be sure to use two layers of the screen for added safety.

I have my acrylic tops on I bought one last week and did not have them on and he jumped out, just bought another one and put the covers back on the tank. It did go up one degree in temp.

Eggcrate works.. I have that on my 29g... however, going with netting as Slice mentioned is far better. I made such a cover for my 125g. It looks nicer too.

I just purchased the screen netting from BRS and the screen frame and screen corners from Home Depot. The screen was easy to make and the whole thing cost approximately $25.00. Because the netting is clear, the screen does not diminish any of my lights output. I can't even tell the screen is covering my tank. No way my Diamond Goby is going carpet surfing.

I would be concerned about the light quality going through acrylic. I'm sure its going to yellow over time also.

I have the plastic screens and they are wonderful.

if you're using only 1/4" he will get out. I've lost 2 that way. Need to double layer it

Mrbeachbum2, how did your 2 gobies get through the screen? My goby's head is twice the size of the 1/4" netting. Did they just bust through? If I have to double layer I will, but I am curious as to how they got out.

This is a non-issue. They make plenty of acrylic tanks with acrylic lids. I have one. No yellowing whatsoever and the tank is four years old.

I used a window screen I customized to fit the tank. Nothing is coming out of it, and lets heat out and light in. Painted the frame black to match the trim.
