Tank cracked (3 months old)

I am so ticked off, I just set this up in May, came home for lunch then saw the water. I acted fast enough to save everything. Had to acquire a smaller tank and scramble. Was up and running in less than two hours. What the heck could have caused the tank to crack? It travelled from the lower left corner on the front glass right up to the top in the middle.

was it level, was one corner of the stand higher, IDk, sorry to hear it, but at least you managed to save everything, was this the 40g?

It was my 40 gal breeder I had set up as a frag tank, Yeah it was level, it's on a flat bench made of 2x6's & 4x4's that could hold up a Mack truck.

Bummer! It sure sounds like a stress crack of some kind; any places along the top of the stand that were in the least uneven, even though it was level?

Can I repair this with a thick piece of acrylic or plexi cut to fit inside the tank, then seal it. It seems as if I should be able to do it easily if it will work. I could go with black and make it the back of the tank. Opinions?

I had a similar accident happen with a previous 55 gal. In the end I had to take everything out of the tank and purchase another one.

I would avoid just patching it...I have replaced a pane before, it's actually not that hard to do. Here's a link...

my 40G AGA breeder broke too about 2 weeks ago! but not the actual glass, i guess it was the silicone since it leaked badly.

i am never gonna buy an AGA again... :(

Bach, I was not just patching a spot I was talking about a piece that covers the entire side from corner to corner all the way around.

I thought PERFECTO was the cheapest brand. And AGA/Aqueon was a little bit thicker/better glass. But they both have the potential to leak. There's not a lot of choices out there unless you go custom.
