Tank Crash

So recently while doing a little tribute to the local wineries (namely by personally enjoying as many of them as I could in the comfort of my home) I got the great idea to change out my substrate. I already had all the sand that I needed and certainly had plenty of motivation, however, what I lacked was brain cells.

So while Im doing this substrate change....removing everything and putting all of my live rock, corals, and livestock in another tank I didnt think to check the heater inside the smaller tank. Wouldnt you know it that the water actually got a little warm; Somewhere in the mid 90s. Needless to say Ive lost every coral but two. All the fish survived which was nice, but to add insult to injury ever since I did the substrate change I have had an incurable amount of Cyanobacteria and a red flatworm outbreak.

To combat it Ive recently installed an ASM G2, a PhosBan reactor and gotten a brand new filter sock, however, nothing is helping. Short of turning off my lights for a few days at a time, is there anything I can do to fix this.

Ive cut down the feedings to my fish and stepped up the water changes, but even still its just beating me down. Is there any invert. or fish I should be looking into?

Try increasing the water flow to help with the cyano.

As for red flatworms, I want to say a sixline or coris wrasse may help you out there. There are some nudibranchs that are perported to eat them, but I'd stay away from those. Flat worm exit would likely work if you want to treat chemically.

I had a cyano problem that I could not solve. I ended up using some Chemi Clean, and it cleared the cyano. But I think it might have decimated my pod population.

I have used Flatworm Exit in the past without any problems.

You could try to add some macro algae to suck up the excess nutrients. I bought a used 55g from a woman more than a year ago. She had a problem w/ cyano but i put a bunch of macro algae in the tank. within a month the cyano disappeared... never to return.

I have used Chemi Clean too in the past with great results, however I second the increased water flow as a natural way to get rid of cyanobacteria.

You guys are awesome, but upon reading my post I realize that I left a lot of things out.

A) I have almost no clean up crew to speak of (1 blue legged hermit, 1 nessarius, and 8 Turbo snails)

B) My current occupants are a Sailfin Tang, a Bi-color Angel and a Coral Beauty

C) I don't clean my filter sock out but once every 2 weeks.

D) I probably overfeed my tank sometimes.

I love the idea of using macroalgae, but my sailfin loves that stuff....like seriously, Ive seen him rub up suggestively to it and whisper sweet nothings in its ear.

I want to get a clean up crew, but I want to support someone local. Thus far the only place Ive seen that has good inverts is O st. but the last 3 times ive been in there the service has been so far below acceptable I am almost wanting to wash my hands of them.

as for the water flow thing I would like to think I have plenty of movement, but I suppose getting a few stronger power heads wouldnt hurt anything...especially since I dont have any more corals.

You really need more clean up crew. I order mine from reeftopia.com ... as they are one of the cheapest for clean up crew and always provide excellent service.

I do support the LFS where I've bought sand and all my fish from yourreef and O st. but if I can save alot $$ from ordering online than I will.

Throw your macro into the sump and when you have to trim, trim it and give it to your salfin as a special treat.

aw man, i'm sorry to hear about your tank! good to hear your fish are ok though... you know i love that sailfin!
