Tank crashing?

So, I've heard the term "crash" many times but I don't fully understand the meaning.

Obviously it's not a good thing but is there a set definition? Does it just mean that your tank has reached a point where you feel it would be better to start over rather than continue trying to fix an issue or is there a certain set of circumstances that lead to and ultimately end in a "crash"?

It usually refers to something that has gone horribly wrong sometimes resulting in chemistry gone haywire, dying fish and or coral. In a nutshell the conditions are not conducive for life. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yeah. Sometimes it's one thing like an alk spike, sometimes it's a snowball effect like lack of oxygen. The balance is shot and stuff dies.
