Tank Cycling

When setting up my 55g reef tank if I just use Base rock and Live Sand will the tank cycle properly with out Live rock? Or do I need the Live Rock to make it cycle?

If you sand is live it will cycle it may take a little longer.

Drop a few LR in will help speed up the process, greatly. Personally, i don't believe in live sand. Bags in storage for months equal dead sand. JMO.

Brook, I did 20lbs of base and 50lbs of LR in my 55g.

Well right now I have 30lbs of base and I was going to get 20 to 30lbs of live from 3 or 4 different Fish store so I can get a variety of Rock.

you dont need LR to cycle.
