Tank Emergency

Anyone in the OKC or within an hour or so of Lawton have a 75-125 gallon tank for sale. I believe my 75 has some sort of leak under the center brace on the bottom. The tank overflowed for an unknown reason, I've checked all the lines and pumps, nothing suspect there. The only thing I can think of is a possibly a colonista snail got the float valve and held it open because my ATO reservoir is complete drained and it wasn't when I left this a.m. I'm about to see if I can see into the tank by moving sand, but I've been soaking up beading water for about 30 minutes from that bottom center brace.

I think your problem is coming from your overflow, not a leak. Of course, I have been known to be wrong from time to time. ;) I pray for the best in either situation.

It's either residual water that ran down the molding to the trough in the bottom center brace or it's a small crack that I can't see because of the center brace. There is a small clam right over center brace where most of the water seems to beading out from, but I wouldn't think that a clam's acid could eat through glass? I'm hoping that it's residual water being held in the center brace. I've moved as much of the substrate as I can and I can't see anthing. At any rate, I'm locating tubs, just in case.

The longer it goes, the more I think water ran along the bottom molding and pooled in the chanel of the bottom center brace. If there was a crack I think it would have gotten bigger over the past 2 hours, especially if it's on the bottom. Water still beads from the brace, but nothing has dripped in the past hour.

Nothing more to report, not a single drop has fell, but I can still wipe up a bead of water if I push on the center brace. I'm thinking it's residual water from the overflow, which I haven't totally figured out yet either.

May wanna get a fan pointed at that brace or something to help it dry out. It is a 'brace' after all. But glad to hear the tank is okay. If you ever find that colonista snail, be sure to reprimand him very well for his actions.

That's good news, Dave. I'm crossing my fingers that it is residual water. I would help, but it would be a good 3+ hour drive before I could get down there

If that brace is pressed wood, get it as dry as possible as soon as possible, use a fan or even a hair dryer, pressed wood will swell if left wet for very long.

It's the plastic brace on the bottom of the tank, all of the wood looks great. Thankfully my daughter was home, she called me immediately and I had her turn the pumps off and it only took two towels to soak up the water that overflowed. I got home in about 10 minutes. It was just crazy that I could keep soaking up water from that brace. I can still get a bead from it if I press on it. But like I said (and hope) if there was a crack on the bottom, I would think I would know by now, 11 hours later. I don't believe that a small crack could stay that way that long with all of the water, rock and sand on it.

Unless you built the tank yourself, then the bottom of it would be tempered and one crack would shatter the whole bottom. You would have 75g of water, rock, and sand in the floor. I would be more concerned about the seems of the silicon and around the braces, along with any plumbing and bulkheads. If you can't find a leak in any of those spots, it is probably just leftover water. I remember when me and Radcat were setting up his tank and we had a small spill. He has a plastic piece of flooring under his tank to protect the carpet. The water took forever to soak up with a towel because it hid. I have a feeling that you are alright.

There are 2 or 3 big tanks for sale in the paper and PetVet is having their annual sale. Like Travis said I would check the seams. If its just the silicone you can fix it but you would still need to find a place to put all your fish.

I'm almost 100% confident it was excess water. It's been over 24 hours and any kind of crack on the bottom would have shown itself by now. Thanks for the look out for the tanks, a little longer and a little more worry and I would have had the approval to get a bigger tank. If only I could have played it out a little longer :)
