Tank full of unwanted Mantis

kenny, im in the same boat as a lot of these guys. im looking to acquie a mantis. where did you get the rock from? this could help for an ID. also the dottyback refered to earlier is the orchid dottyback. i believe www.marinedepotlive.com has them, and list them as a predator to mantis. also, to get rid of them pretty fast, i would add an eel. the eel would be easier to catch, IMO thana small fish. also, the eel would have a much bigger appetite. what kind of fish are you planning on keeping on your FOWLR? there are many fish that would feed on mantis that small.

good luck!! and if you do catch some (prefered method) im very interested. i have tons of shrooms (see gallery) and a few dif kinds of zoas, that i may be iterested in trading.

Still sounds more like a type of amphipod/copepod/isopod then mantis. There are many many creatures that may look like a mantis (kinda) without being a mantis; especially when most of the need to be looked at with a magnifying glass and the largest is a 1/2 inch long.

I'm intruiged and just want to see a pic.

here is link for the pic. it is only a pic of one of them wish i found in my frag box. it is very small. but if you look closely you can see that it is a shrimp. and if you look in person even when they are that small you can see all there caracteristic

Looks like a copepod or amphipod from so far away. A more close up pic would help out quite a bit.

That hunched-over stance is characteristic of some amphipods. I had some in my tank that I thought for the longest time were baby mantis...they even seemed to grab things with their front two pairs of legs.

Their pretty fast. The amphipods I've seen tend to curl their tails under their body, and mysis are straight. I know I have some huge amphipods in my tank. And they are always crawling around on the rocks.

i have a mantis and hes about 2-3 inches long...it seems to me that the momma would need to be bigger than a half inch to carry eggs...just my two cents.....a friend has one thats about 6 inches long....quite a killer...

Those are not Mantis they are pods. You will end up with hundreds of them. They are good source of food for other tank mates.
