Tank glass thickness! Extremely worried!

Hi guys, I'm new to reefing but not new to aquariums. I just got my custom made tank up, running, cyled and a few fish/coral. So I joined the forum and read some worrying post of tank glass thickness.

My rimless tank I had made ( bye a professional company ) is...
1100mm long
600mm high
500 wide

RIMLESS 12mm glass all over ?

Is this ok or do I have an issue on my hands?

Thanks

WEEEELLLLLLLLLL, personally, (as a builder,) I would not have sold that tank, nor would I care to put water in it. @ 15mm sides, and 25mm bottom, I would consider it passible, but still a mm light. Safety is a relative term, however you seem to be concerned about it...

The difference is in the engineering values used. Too many use the "high end" tensile strength of glass ( ~28MPa,) however testing of glass shows the actual tensile strength is variable and generally in the range between ~19MPa and ~28MPa. There is quite a difference in price for glass at 28MPa and 19MPa. (loosely referred to as the quality of glass.) Many builders have a tendancy to use cheap glass, and calculate at 28MPa. So, there is going to continue to be disparaging differences in glass thickness.

However, it was built professionally, so there is a warranty on it, as long as you use the reqiured stand for it (how it is usually done.)

Yeah, if it had a rim around it, I wouldn't worry about the thickness. However rimless... perhaps. My question is do you see any noticeable bulge in the glass?

As Uo6 said, if it was built professionally... by good professionals, then sure... if it was built by some local guy who's built a few sumps... eh maybe not so much.

Thanks for your response guys, the tank was built bye a well know company but clearly they don't no that much! He did tell me it's made from the highest "quality" glass whatever that means!

I did do my research before.. Well I thought I did... Both company's I got to quote both said 12mm and so did the calc online which said nothing about supports.

As for bowing... Hardly but I would have to say 1mm maybe 2mm bow in the larger front and rear panels :/

It says in my terms the glass is NOT covered by warranty jut the seals :o

O Jesus man! I'll keep a very close eye on it! But I don't no what to do now because there not gonna make me another one and it cost me £450 so I can't afford another at the moment. :( but technical it's not up to the job so it's unfit for purpose ?

Bracing?

Bracing?

Would maybe some bracing fix the issue? a centre brace Or maybe 2 braces evenly spaced?

Would fu*k the look of my rimless but better than dead fish on the floor :/
