I am out of town. My tank is being watched and the power must have went out due to thunder and crazy rain. The tank temp is 71 or 72!!!! do you think my fish and corals will be ok? The tank usually runs about 78 degrees sometimes hotter depending on time of year.

Colder is generally better that getting too hot. i wouldn't worry too much as long as they can get everything back online. this is assuming the powerheads were running. That could be a concern.

Thanks for the response I am having someone check back in a couple hours. I.am out of town. This is why vacation is so stressfull to reefers!!!!

I came downstairs the other morning and my tank was at 72, somehow my heater came unplugged. My fish were a bit sluggish but everything came back once I got the thing plugged back in. I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Thanks oweninaz. I am out of town so a bit stressed but I think they will be ok. I appreciate your input

Had that happen to me. Was out of the house. GFCI tripped and shut the tank off for probably about 6 hours. Temp was at 71 when I got back. Turned everything back on. Everything was fine.

Good luck

A heater blew out and flipped my breaker last week. I was out the entire day and returned to a tank at 65F and a heater that had been smoldering all day. Even my birdsnest came out ok. Still worried about the urchin tho. Chemistry was fine after the tank warmed up.

And, on the plus side, my serpent star escaped from the overflow.

The community on this site responded immediately to yours and my own crises, so double the thank yous to the above posters. His anxiety attack is my own.

I dont run a heater and if I leave a window open in the evening in the morning the tank will be about 73 ~ normally the tank runs 76 - 80, I have not seen any ill effect.. I hear you on the vacation comment next week I'll be out of state for a week and my father will be topping off and feeding. I pray nothing goes wrong b/c he wouldn't even know there was an issue unless there was water on the floor etc. I just moved to NM and in Cali there was always a couple of friends that had tanks that babysat for me... Uggg Im worried..

Milehighfish go and have fun. I usually have my older son watch the tank and he calls and I tell him exactly what to do where to look etc. I am always way too stressed during my vacations. I am out of town about 5 days and it is about 5 days too long!!! The good news is my hardwood floors are being done and my tank was moved to the garage. Once home I am getting the oceanic 215 reefready tank with starfire front and beveled edges. I am changing my lights to 2-250 halides and t5s should be nice. so some good is coming from my stress!!
Ludnix that is crazy but gives me hope
Thanks to all for the input

is the tank accustomed to temp swings? this past winter, mine would swing from 79 to 74 in really cold nights and everything seemed to do fine. Where people have trouble is usually when the tank temperature has never swung more than a degree. will16 may be the exception to that theory though lol

bubbles my tank usually will change about 3 degrees on any given day. Usually the lowest it has been is about 77 and the highest 80-81 in the summer. I am just going to have to wait and see. I am in Boston on vacation so until I see it I will just have to stress
