Tank has cleared

Ok so I got over excited yesterday about my tank being Cloudy so thanks to every one who helped me and answered my questions. Now I have another Question. I have a 65 gallon aquarium in the process of turning it into a reef tank. What is a good rule of thumb for a power head, 150 gph or 1500gph? I am confused on what to get. I want to make sure I get enough water flow. Right now I have 2 maxijets (400 & 600) and I can tell thats not enough. I was thinking about getting two 900's and keep the 600 in there too. I would put the 400 in a 32 gallon trach can for premade salt water. What do you think?

Thanks

You want to get to a total flow of some 10 or 20 times the size of the tank per hour or even more depending on what you want to keep. And in general, I think you are better off getting that total flow from several sources. If I recall correctly the maxijets are rated at litres per hour. So with two 900s and a 600 that would be 2400 litres per hour. That is roughly a flow of 633 gallons/hour. That is just under the 10x flow per hour rule. So that would make a good start. Personally, I keep my two 12g nano tanks at even more than 20x hour.

I have a 75g and I use 2 maxi jet 900's on each side of the tank plus a 1200 maxi jet set into my rockwork in the back pushing water across the back of the tank. I have a 700 gph pump in my sump with the outlet pipe facing the surface of the tank. It does a good job just for comparison.

Hope this helps

I was doing some research today and found a good deal on Koralia #3 powerheads. I will be purchasing 2 tonight. I am shooting for a reef tank with fish. Then it is a waiting process before I buy some dry and live rock from TBS.
