Tank heat

My tank got hot yesterday. Even last night, with my 2 blue bulbs on, my tank climbed up to 84.6 at one point. I turned off lights, and hooked my fan back up.

This morning, with fan on and no lights, I am already up to 81.7. My heater light is not on. I made some ice blocks with water bottles to throw in if I need to.

We will see

I had to shut my halides off yesterday, Lindsay is trying to get me to put the air conditioner in to keep the downstairs cooler, which would keep the tank cooler . I am thinking about moving my tank to the basement to keep it cool.

I had to turn on my chiller again yesterday. With temps in the 80's and not running air, you will need to move a bit of air to keep it cool.
I left my windows open last nite and a fan running on the tank, my temp only droped to 79. With the chiller dropping it to 80 before the lights went out.

I might break down and turn the air on, we will see how it goes. I have 2 liters getting iced down now to help.

The air is still off. The tank has 2 of the blue lights on. But a good or better breeze moving through the house, canopy doors open, and a small fan in the canopy above the lights, tank is still ant 81.2. Not to bad.

I didn't even think about that. I will check that out. I should have thought about that right off the bat.

I checked it out, and I did have a bunch of crap on my pump. I cleaned it off, and I'll be damned if my heat didn't go up .5. What a crock. I put a frozen 2 liter in there to see what that will do.

Take something to prop your canopy off of the tank by a couple of inches (2x4, whatever) to allow better circulation. Your canopy is a heat trap unless at least 2 sides are vented. I would put the fan by the canopy to blow the heat across the water. You could also put a couple of fans in your windows. Open up your doors to your stand and you can put a fan down there also. Your evaporation rate will greatly increase. I would just run the air.
If its gets bad enough you can shut your skimmer and your fuge light down and just run your return pump. Pumps create heat also. My tank and stand are all open so I dont have to worry about it until it the outside temps get around 85. My tank only hit 81 these past few days and I'm not running my air yet either. But I'm running a mag pump and we know how those put out heat.

Whats up phil, I always had a fan plugged into my timer that ran my halides. fan was over the sump, if I noticed my temp was getting to low I would jus turn it off

Donnie,

Whats up man? how ya been? getting back into the tanks anytime soon?

Josh,

you have seen my canopy and how tall it is. I would be afraid with the kids in the house that if I propped up my canopy, it would be to top heavy and take a chance of a small crash... you have seen my kids to.....you know what I mean...LOL

Yeah I know. I was leary with mine too. On my 110 I have a canopy and I prop it up with 2x4 with the 1 1/2" up at each end. It doesnt rock or anything so no worries. My son was actually just jumping up today to see if he could reach the top of it! Oh I was gonna beat his @ss just for trying! Just imagine if he wouldve fell and used the tank to stop him. Scary

I know.

I got it too cool down a little for me. I am holding at 80 now. i would like to get it a little cooler though. I am going to try to raise the lights up to. I have them fairly close to the water now.

Do any of you run a fan over your sump? If so does it seem to help?

I run a fan over my sump Phil and it does seem to help a good amount. I don't really worry to much about my tank reaching 83. If it starts getting into the 84-85 range I start to worry. When my air is running in the house (I have turned it on and off several times this year already) the tank ranges from 78.5 to 83 each day.

I don't worry about 83 to much, but I watch it closer when it gets there. I got up to close to 85 last weekend in the heat, not for long, but it came to close for me I guess. I noticed some difference in the fish.
