tank heater

Hey. I have a 75 gal tank and last night the window in the room the tank is in was open all night. It was pretty cold in the room and it looks like the temp. dropped about 2 degrees. (from 80 to 78) Its set for 79 degrees but its usually 80. for some reason the temp. isnt raising again, just staying at 78. Everything is working so I dont know why the heater wouldnt be working. Any ideas?

If the tank is staying at 78 degrees and the room is colder than 78 degrees then the heater is working or the room is at 78 degrees?

More watts. It's just that cold to where your heater can't keep up.

Yeah, you either need more watts or the temp dial is off. Does the heater have an "on" light? I wouldn't be all that surprised if the temp dial is off. As a rule I NEVER trust them.

there is no ON light on the heater, but i see the dial from the side of the tank and its at 79 degrees as always. Almost positive that the open window made the temp. drop but why wouldnt the temp. raise again? the room is 69-70 degrees. Right this moment the tank 78 1/2 degrees

I think a Ranco controller is probably the most important piece of equipment a hobbiest can invest in. Even in the thermostat is stuck on the heater.....no matter. The Ranco controller turns it on or off as needed.

If you don't have enough wattage you can either add another cheap heater or go ahead and just add a titanium heater element that does not even have a therm built in and let the Ranco controller take care of it.

I have one on my Nano and my 210 display. They are both the two stage units that will either turn on the heater or the chiller (the fans in the Nano's case) to keep the temp stable.

DFS is now carrying the "finished" controller unit. It is not exactly cheap but it is definitely cheaper than replacing the population of your tank..........
