I'm putting a six foot long tank in the wall. What are some good ideas to have access to front of tank for cleaning and to be able to rock scape? Thanks
You could do some sort of framed, removable panels over the tank. You pull them out of the wall when you need to access and pop them back in when you don't. They are pretty easy to make and look good.
Just make sure you do it! I have no access from the front on mine and regret it everyday. I have never watched my fish eat except from above with rippled water. Soon as my injury allows, I will be covering the tank and cutting in some access panels
Also if you plan to aquascape, clean or anything of that nature make sure the opening is high enough on the front panel. I clock my head on mine all of the time and it sucks!
First thought are Sass hinged phantom doors, but they are a pita to get perfect. Super kewl would be an art panel (back light glass, mural, dogs playing pocker... Or just a painted peice of fiber board) with upward opening pnuematic stays.
My tank is drywalled in from top to bottom. We cut down plain solid core doors to fit the desired opening size. The door frames are also standard door frames that were cut down.
The solid core doors are nice because they do a great job insulating the sound.
