my tank just started leaking, and i cant find the leak :-(

i have 2 fish i ordered going to arrive any second now and i need a place to house them for a bit till i can ither fix this tank or get another one up and going.

all i need housed is 2 golden dwarf eels, they are small and reef safe. they wont eat your other fish unless they are small small. i also have a few frags, mostly worried about the eels right now. if you can help out for a bit please let me know ASAP!

fastest way to get a hold of me to to text me please PM me for my number.

any help is much appreciated.

the fish will be fine if temp and params are same. You empty your tank water into the tote. Can even use a clamp on fuge light for awhile.

thanks for the info. will do as a last resort because i know i will mess it up somehow, im not a expert by any means in this area. i would really like them to go to a well established tank while i fix this one or get another one.

Could drain tank water into the tub. I have a 29 gallon tank you can use if that helps you out.

im still lost though i thought you have to wait like 30 days at least before adding fish? if i start a new tank its still going to be a "new" tank and it will have spikes and such. it just seems super risky to me with such beautiful and expensive fish.

In fact go grab a 20 gal tank from there or a petco/petsmart if close by... wipe it out with vinegar, and fill with water from your leaking tank, eels, frags as well. Some motion and a light over it, and they will be fine for a bit.

If you move your live rock and current tank water into the tub with a heater and circulation pump(s) you don't need to worry about the "new tank cycling". New tanks cycle because of dieoff on the live rock. If you don't let the organisms in/on the rock die off, then you won't have a cycle.

LEt us know how it goes. I'd move everything but the sand into a tote. Even the corals will be ok for a bit. With the live rock from the tank and the tank water you should be fine. If not quite enough water you can just add some newly mixed saltwater

You do need to wait on a reef tank, but in this situation that isnt an option. Worst case leave lights off and monitor the n02,no3,nh3 and just do water changes. I would just do a tote, change water as needed and worry about getting the other tank fixed/running.

if you have cycled live rock in the tank just move it all with the water to any suitable container with a heater and powerhead. not the substrate, though.

Put into fresh mixed salt water at slightly lower salinity than shipped & temp matched with no drip acclimation. Add touch of carbon and ammo lock. Good for 3 days.

I'm sorry man, a leaking tank totally sucks and is extremely frustrating.

This is just a thought, but will your plumbing allow you to run the tank partially full? I had a tank leak and I was never able to figure out where the leak was. When I drained it partially to remove my beananimal overflow and I noticed that the leak stopped. Either the leak was along an upper seam or draining the tank reduced the pressure on the leak and slowed it down a lot.

I agree with the others, as far as moving rock and tank water to a temporary vessel. Ii think that's a low risk option.

If you are uncomfortable with those approaches, I would let you house the eels in my 29 gal refugium until you are ready. I'm not exactly next door, but I'll throw it out there as an option.

check the bottom glass if you can for cracks. look around all the bulkheads for drain and supply.

how about taping paper towels around the corners top to bottom to see if the sides are leaking?

I might be a drive also but I have a 30 gallon tank if you need to use it also. I went through this a year and half ago. Def need circulation, that's where I messed up and lost most my fish and a few corals. I used 2 rubbermaid bins to house everything with lights sittings on top, all set up on the dining room table(wife lived it)
Crappy situation, best of luck!!
