Hello guys I have a problem my display has come down with ich.
I seek your advice on this ima give you as much info as I can plz bear with the names of some of my fish as that is what I call them LoL ok tank is 180g with 50g sump/refuge water parameters are
temp 80
salinity is 1.023
PH is 8.3
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
ammonia o
fish==
1 Emperor angel
2 Clark clowns
2 tomato clowns
1 lion fish
1 Pakistani angel
1 yellow tang
6 green cronies
2 blue damsels
1 Niger trigger
1 striped bamboo shark
corals
2 colt corals

2 coral banded shrimp
3 cleaner shrimp
20 blue leg hermit crabs

4 brittle stars
1 chocolate chip star fish

about 150lbs of live rock
1/2 inch sand bed
now what I need to know is the best way to treat this tank the easiest way lower salinity ?
take out inverts and copper dose what do you guys suggest
I know a lot are going to freak about the shark and lion in their buy they have never bothered anyone yet and I have ordered a 240g for next month plz help me save my fish about 3-4 are showing ich I don't want to tear down the aqua scape and spend hours trying to catch a sick fish that don't need that added stress
but will if you guys think its best or can I copper dose the fish or lower salt lvl ?
 
No. You will most likely kill off all the inverts doing that. The problem being that the ich parasite and the corals/crabs/shrimp are all susceptable to the same things that kill them, like copper or hyposalinity.

The only absolutely safe thing to do is pull the fish out and treat them in qt with copper or hypo. Leave them in QT for at least 6 weeks so the ich will die without a host.
 
SO pull out all of my fish or only the ones that are showing signs of ich ? also don't think I can put that many fish in my hospital tank only 10g :(
 
How bout if i put the inverts and corals in hospital and treat main display think that would be alot easier to get them out then the sick fish would copper hurt live rock and corals ?
 
Ok lol not getting responses here and time is of the essence ok if I pull all my fish and treat them with hypo what do I do about my shark and inverts in main tank can they get the ich and if so what do I do about them ?
 
DO NOT USE COPPER IN THE MAIN TANK!! It is widely believed that is impossible to ever get the tank copper free enough to house inverts again after copper treatment.

I don't know about sharks, but inverts do not get ich. I'm pretty sure I've heard only bony fishes can host ich, but I'm not 100% on that.

All fish should be removed to QT and treated. A fish that appears to be unaffected my have one or two of the parasites on it, continuing the life cycle. The only sure and safe way to rid the display of ich is to remove ALL fish for 6-8 weeks. The only way to be sure that all of the fish are ich free before reintroducing is to treat them all.
 
thank you for your reply im taking all the fish except the shark out tonight. not going to be fun removing 200lbs of rock to get them lol and messing up my aqua scape which I finally got the way I love of course :). but all part of the game if anyone knows about the shark plz let me know and also what about star fish and corals are they ok to stay in main tank or do they need to be removed to quarantine also ?
 
Starfish, corals, snails, are all definitely safe. They can't host ich.

Believe me, I know what you're going through. I'm pretty sure my YT has black ich, but since he doesn't show any signs of distress, and none of the other fish show any signs, I'm hoping to wait it out. Maybe he'll fight it off. Maybe his little dots are just scabs from getting poked by my hippo tang. I am getting a QT tank going though, so if I need it, it's ready.

So long as you lower the salinity slowly, and bring it back up slowly, then it's probably much safer. Make sure you monitor your PH and alk, as they both tend to drop when using hypo. Baked baking soda (about 1hr at 350) is the best for adding alk and raising ph.
 
The shark is probably safe from ich. Do NOT treat any inverts, sharks, live rock, or live sand with either hyposalinity or copper. Use only an accurate refractometer to measure the salinity. Check the salinity not the specific gravity and go for 14ppt. You can go as low as 11ppt, but 14ppt usually works well and may have less risk of stresing the fish through water quality issues related to hypo. Check the pH DAILY and add a buffer as needed. Treat ALL the fish except the shark.

Thanks again for the info unfortunately I did lose both my angels and both my clowns had all of them for well over a year so it hurt :(. all are in hospital tank now and I am doing hypo treatment on them. I did notice while fish where dying that this was some ruthless ich if that what it was they did have the little spots but it was the way their shin all flaked off last few hours of life that was hard to watch. never seen this so bad with ich before
