Tank leak

So I bought a used tank from discount aquariums and just to setting it up. Come to find out that there is a really slow leak coming from the top right corner trim. I immediately lowered water level about 6in and put some silicone on there, I was kind of rushing during the whole process cuz I was leaving town the next morning. Well fast forward a week and I still have a very very slow leak... Ideas?thoughts? Best silicone to use?

Best to tear the entire tank down, razor the siljcone apart, remove all tracds and re silicone. I would not suggest DA, they have questionable practices.

That sucks!! This is why I always ask if I can see it full..

I have a 29gal arylic you can borrow if you like

Ugh. How big is the tank? Is it something special (rimless, starphire, arcylic?) Petco is doing a $1/gal sale on reasonable tanks. The seams are sloppy but, hey, they hold water.

+1 about DA, I will never step foot in there. I'd rather give used equipment away then trade it in to that shop.

I bought my 185g cube from Discount Aquarium with no problems 1.5 years later; buying used is always a risk, hell, just having an aquarium in a house is a risk!
You may want to talk to Chris, I think this is the name of the DA owner, and tell him about it. Maybe he will stand by what he sells and swap it out for you??

If not, like Junktown said, tear the entire tank down, razor the old silicone off, remove all traces and re silicone with aquarium safe silicone.

Good luck!

It's 110g. Starphire front panel. If its coming from top can I just lower water level scrap off that corner and side and re silicone it?

I would say you could do that and it may be trouble free for years, BUT this leak may be an indication of the integrity of the the rest of the seals...

I would look at it in the way of how much damage 100 gallons of salt water could do to my house.

+100 - this. If you are going to fix it, do bandaid it, fix it for good.

This, also. I have bought stuff from DA, and the one thing I bought that was defective, they stood behind and replaced (a sump that the baffles were in wrong). They took the old one back, and constructed a new one for me from a 30 they had. I still use it to this day!

DA is okay bought some stuff from them. if u have problem should let Christ know. am pretty sure he take care of u. DA is a business that buy and trade. some people like them some don't. just dif people opinions.
