i've only had my mantis for a few days and i've also read on this forum that mantis really don't have any tank mates that they get along with. actually the general thought from what i can see is that you shouldn't have any other things in there...however i have a question...

can i put an eel in the tank...or do they eat them too.

an eel will actually go after the mantis. Bad idea, IMO! Eel's will eat crustations given the chance!

well i tried a pair of clarkii clowns. its been about 3 months or so and one has disappeared ( the smaller one ). This is in a 29 gallon peacock tank.

A well fed smashing mantis shouldn't go after fast moving fish. BUT it also depend on the indivdual and the species. The larger the species the more likely fish will be hunted.. G.ternatensis, Peacock, are more likely to go after fish than n.wennera, G.grapherus. I haven't kept the larger smasher mantis but have kept damsels with all my mantis.

I always say "don't keep anything with a mantis, that you would be peaved to loose."
