Tank mates for a sarcophyton

I have a 55 gal. which currently houses a toadstool leather which is doing very nicely. Also have a small zoa colony and some mushrooms.

I am thinking of adding a couple more types of mushrooms or ricordia, maybe a couple more types of zoanthids.

What I'm afraid of is the leather will dominate the tank and that it will be difficult for other species to do well. I run carbon in the sump which I change out weekly, and do weekly water changes.

What goes well with sarcophyton?

You could go with most soft corals, such as a colt or some sort of finger. I really like the various Lobophytum sp., and have several in my tank, along with a couple different Sarcophyton sp.

We have 4 different toadstool leathers in our 90g, along with a wall hammer, branching hammer, metallic frogspawn, a pipe organ, 4 types of Xenia, several mushrooms, a couple candy canes, a small favia, and many types of zoas. Everyone is growing well for us, and the key has been to give everyone their space. Each leather has enough space to itself that there's no chance of another coral coming in direct contact with it, unless something was to fall on one.

As corals grow and start to get close to one another, I frag the leather or the other coral that's closing in to maintain the space between them. Toadstool leather frags don't fetch as much credit at the LFS as some of the other corals (and take a longer period of time between fragging and taking in for credit), but it's so easy to frag them that it's still worth the effort.

I do use carbon to help with any chemical warfare, but it's not 24/7 -- typically only for the 3 or 4 days prior to every other water change.

My wife's 20L has a decent sized Lobo, with other leathers (several different Sinularia, Capnella, suspected Nepthea), as well as zoas, mushrooms, rics, galaxia, hammers, frogspawn, hyndophora, pipe organ, Pocillopora, Montipora, etc. I have an LPS/softie tank with several Sarco's and everything does fine. I run carbon 24/7 on all my tanks, so that may be why I don't tend to have problems. I have a gold crowned sarco in my SPS display...

i think the effect will be negligible unless you're trying to do a mixed softie/sps tank, and you have some big colonies.
