Tank Padding

Just picked up a used 93g cube with a steel stand. The previous owner had 1/2" insulation between the tank and stand for padding, but ended up being shredded by the time I got home.

Is 1/2" insulation suggested? I plan to have this tank up for some time, so want to do it right the first time!

rimmed or rimless tank?

Rimless tanks need foam since the glass touches the stand.
With rimmed tanks, all the weight of the tank is on the rims (glass doesn't touch the stand). Foam usually isn't recommended, but can be used to smooth out a stand as long as the foam is really dense.

A rimmed tank doesn't need anything if the stand is flat..
But if its not then whatever works..
1/2" insulation (pink/purple board) is fine..or a yoga mat,etc..

steel stand - grind the welds flush, paint it.

Hijack: I have a rimless tank but I didn’t install foam between the tank and stand. Does this warrant a tear-down?
