Tank Pics Before Starting Stocking Tomorrow!

My wife and I are heading out tomorrow to start stocking the CUC. It's the last night I'll be staring at an empty tank, can't wait!

I took a few shots with my iPhone. Enjoy!

Here's a full tank shot. There's a small computer fan mounted to the rim of the tank that comes on if the water temp gets too high.

A closer up full tank shot. I've got around 70 lbs of BRS dry rock and dry sand. I added that small piece of LR you can see in the middle of the tank. It's got quite a few feather dusters on it.

I have 4 small powerheads. The one on the left side of the tank in the one in the middle top of the tank are on the same cycle. There's another at the top right back by the overflow and that one is always on. Then there's one on the right side towards the bottom of the tank and it's blowing out across the back of my tank. That one is always on too.

A shot of the backside of the tank. My Lifereef overflow with the airline tubing to stop the noise. I have an attic right on the other side of this wall and the PVC is actually sitting on top of the attic floor and the rim of the tank. They are the same exact height. I have FIVE RO tubes inside that 3/4" PVC that drop down the T fitting. There is nothing between the T and the tank itself, it's only resting on the tank for support. I have that white nylon string tied around the PVC to help support my overflow drain line. The five RO lines are

1) Top off line
2) New salt water line
3) Drain line
4) Calcium Doser
5) Alk Doser

There's also two wires coming through the wall under the PVC. One is a conductivity probe you can see sitting in my overflow box and the other is an ethernet cable running to my APEX.

My Lifereef sump, skimmer and filter cylinders. I've got a Mag 9 powering the skimmer. You can see the pump and there's a 75W Jager heater there too. the top tubing is the drain line for my skimmer. It goes to the right of the picture and then comes back around with the end sitting on top of the skimmer pump. If you look to the left of the ball valve for the skimmer output you can see some vinyl tubing with a black RO line coming out of it. That vinyl tubing is actually connected to the PVC coming out of the wall. Anything that is added to my tank drops down that vinyl tubing and into the skimmer section. The black RO line goes to a pump in my return section to drain my sump. One filter cylinder is empty, the other has about 1/2 cup of BRS ROX carbon. By the skimmer pump and heater you can see a temp probe for my APEX.

Another shot from a different angle. This is the return section and I actually have 3 pumps here. A mag 9 feeds the fuge to the right as well as teh tank return. A Mag 5 or 7 (I forget) feeds the filter cylinders in the skimmer area. I then have a Mag 9 attached to that black RO line coming from the vinyl tubing in the skimmer section. This pump is going to be used to drain my sump for water changes. There's a second 75 W Jager sitting in there too. If you look closely you can see an ORP probe and a pH probe in holders in front of the filter cylinders. What you can't see in the back of the return area are two float switches. One for top off, the other as a backup. You can't see water leak sensor I have either.

I have two shots below. The first is within minutes of adding two balls of Chaeto I got from a local guy last week. The second is the Cheato from a few minutes ago.

This setup is going to be pretty much automatic. I only need to worry about filling my top off and salt water cans every 2-3 weeks or so. I'm getting ready to program my APEX to drain about a gallon of water from the tank on a daily basis. I timed it and it takes about 6 minutes to fill a gallon. So I'll program the APEX to work my drain pump for 6 minutes and then have the pump in my salt mix can pump until it reaches the shut off float valve which is the regular top off float.

It's been a long time coming and I can't wait to get this thing stocked tomorrow!

Sweet setup!
Looks like you are really starting off on the right foot. You obviously have done your research.
I have about ten years in this hobby and my tanks are about low tech as you can get.
My 55 only has a couple of koralias and a 110 aquaclear powerfilter.

The 55g standards are a tough one to aquascape as you probably found out. Hard not to build a wall like you have done and the beach front property will quickly get tight but I am sure you will manage it nicely.

You have similar lighting to me so you can probably keep any softy or LPS and possibly some SPS's up high but I personally have never tried.

What are you planning for fish and Corals?
What Are you thinking about getting for your CUC?

Thanks!

I've been planning this out for some time and have been doing TONS of research. I've had the 55 for 12 years already and it was always a fresh tank. I finally decided to bite the bullet.

I wanted to make this as EASY as possible, hence all the gadgets. It's not a fun hobby when it becomes work.

Stocking looks like firefish, clown, royal gramma, goby, possibly a mandarin later on. CUC is some hermits and whatver else might be available tomorrow. i'm not getting the full crew yet, just some.

Corals are still undecided. I'll have to see what my local club members are fragging.

All excellent choices for fish but do not get the mandarin unless your pod population is really doing well.I magine you already know this because you mentioned possibly and later. Again you obviously have done your research. Helps in this hobby.

I do see a bunch of smaller pods in the fuge but have only seen a handful of the larger ones. I'll have to see how the tank goes in a year or so before deciding on the mandarin.

I've spent a lot of time doing research and a lot of work getting this thing ready, but it's all to make my life easier in the future. I'm going to be like a kid on Chirstmas Eve tonight..

Snapped a couple of pics of my tank last night. Thought it would be easier than listing my livestock . If you have any questions on the corals I have, let me know. Like I said it is low tech but a stable tank. Plus you can see what imeant about "the wall and the lack of beach front property" !

BTW, I would stay away from the tomato clowns they get pretty mean when they mature and make it difficult to buy new fish.

OK, just got back from acclimating everything by dripping. I ended up with

4 Blue Leg Hermits
4 Astrea Snails (That's what they were labeled but my limited knowledge leads me to Trochus)
2 Peppermint Shrimp to help control some Aiptasia I found.

It's nice to actually see some living animals in the tank finally. It's been a LONG time coming!

Sounds like a good start. Good luck with them. See if you can get some extra shells for the hermits. If there are no extra shells laying around they may be forced to take them from your snails once they out grow their old ones.

looking good! are you using the stock bulbs on that fixture? I got sick of mine really quick and got some ATIs last week. makes a HUGE difference. I love the fixture though! so nice and easy to program!

Thanks everyone. I'm happy so far!

I am using the stock bulbs but I really have nothing to compare them too since this is my first experience with SW and HO lighting. I have intentions of upgrading the bulbs, but only after the current ones need replacing. I've spent enough already. lol
