can you tell us more about your setup? lighting, flow, filtration?
looks real good, i like your aquascaping, almost like shelving of the rocks.
Yeah, I guess I should have included that, but here it is. Its pretty long so.....
The display is an All glass 39 36x20x12, which is housed in a furniture quality, reinforced, wood bookshelf. The bookshelf sits a caddy corner in the room and behind it is the sump sitting on the floor:
In the display I have a MJ 1200 with the Hydor flow rotator and a Seio 600. Between the return, and the powerheads I get somewhere in the 900-1000x turnover. I also use a HOB small filter that really keeps the display water crystal clear, but this may eventually go away.
For lights I use the Current Nova Extreme 36".
I made a custom sump using a 37 gallon column tank and had 3 partitions made. Each partition is 1" shorter than the other and has 1.5†notched corner to allow to flow down. The overflow goes into the first section that holds some live rock and has my HOB New Reef octopus skimmer hanging off the partition glass. This overflows into the 2nd area that has Chaeto in it and may hold other natural media later but right now I just want it to be a pod farm. The 3rd section is a set of baffles for air bubbles, in the initial portion of this section I have a DIY phosban reactor and use some filter media in another baffle area. Finally in this partition there is a 3 gallon return pump area.
Feeding/Dosing,
Right now I dose Limewater sludge 3x every 2 weeks, but this will adjust based on my alk/calc levels in the future. I do not add any other chemical yet, but will probably start testing for magnesium soon, and if that ends up low, will use Randy’s Recipe for the 3rd part of the 2 part recipe.
.
For feeding, I use this frozen combo stuff that seems like a seafood stew for the fish. I got this from Marine Scenes here in Boynton. I switch this up with frozen cyclo-peeze, formula one, and Spectrum A+. Julian Sprung gave me some of his PhytoPlan at the swap so I use this with some of hiz ZooPlan 2-3 times per week about ½ hour after the lights go off, I only use about 1/3 dose though.
Future Plans:
I really want a 92 corner in the future, so a lot of the stuff I have right now is temporary. The lights I have are not optimal, but after reading quite a lot, I think it is fine for what I plan on accomplishing with this tank, with its current restrictions. I go back and forth about using a closed loop with a scwd. I really hate seeing the powerheads, but I also hate the overflow box that I have to have. Once I get my 92g tank, I will definitely go with the closed loop.
