Tank pics

That's my 125 FO,golden puffer, red sea broomtail wrasse (being shy),blonde naso tang, miniatus grouper and pair of crosshatch triggers...

That male crosshatch is gorgeous, and that's one of the nicest gold puffers I've seen. Great job. How big is the miniatus - I can barely see him behind the rock the female crosshatch is laying by. If you have pics of the grouper and wrasse, I'd love to see them.

thanks....the miniatus is about 7",he hides all day until feeding time, the female crosshatch and him share their rock,I'm glad they get along.

That's a nice size miniatus. Did you grow him up or get him that size? Miniatus are pretty beyond belief, but they just don't enjoy being out in the open. I can still appreciate them, but I can understand why some people are upset with them after they purchase one.

Golden puffer is what, 10"?

Very happy and healthy looking fish. That Golden Puffer is beautiful. What do you feed them? Im guessing you must add vitamins to their food to get that coloration out of them.

Have you seen Miniatus though when they get big? I think by the time they hit about 12" or so they loose their spots and a lot of the color. Its kind of a shame. Are you planning to get a bigger tank for that guy? Im not at all trying to start a tank size debate (you obviously know how to take care of your fish) but 125's are very narrow for that grouper and puffer once they get bigger.

Hey where did you get your fish from? Reminds me of the good old days of FO with no live rock. Makes quite the display. Fish look happy. How long have you had the crosshatches? How big are they? 125 is a bit small for me for a crosshatch, much less a pair. Kust my opinion. That gold puffer is awesome. Those fish from CC? Regards, Tim

nice setup, i see you are of the few that like the unnaturally clean look.
but the fish look fantastic.

i love this thread
this guy has no live rock or sand, tank that is way too small for those fish, no real skimmer, fish that should be miserable -- but they look great!

i have a perfectly sized tank, 200# of live rock, 2" live sand bed, appropriately sized fish, and a BK supermarine skimmer....and i'm the one with the ich outbreak!

thanks to all...I feed them a mix of prawn, silversides, krill, clams and squid, sometimes presoaked with some vitamins.I've had the crosshatches a few months, the male is alittle over 6" and the female alittle over 7". Nobody is from CC (LFS) I shop around for fair prices and good fish. I do know eventually a bigger tank is needed.....hey saltyESQ,do you do divorces?

How do you know there is no real skimmer? I don't really feel the tank is way too small with fish that should be 'miserable' - that sounds pretty harsh to me. Guy obviously knows what he is doing with livestock that looks that good.

Yeah the tank is not way too small...yet :) The fish are not too big...yet.

They look great and Im sure he will upgrade when needed. I think a 210 would be great for these guys.

More of the Golden Puffer!

yeah, yeah, yeah, me tooooooo.

Love the Golden Puffer!

To answer all the questions and comments:

1) I don't handle divorces. I prefer "alleged" criminals. I can refer you to a divorce atty if you need one (shoot me a PM, let me know if this is for the husband or the wife as those attys tend to specialize on one side)

2) His footer says he has a ASM G1x skimmer on a 125 with a heavy bioload. That skimmer is worthless on a 40gallon, never mind a 125 with some big fish in it. I had a ASM G4x on my 210, and it could not handle a 210 (it's rated for a 450 gallon tank). Again, I'm not knocking the guy -- it's a miracle! That must be the highest performing ASM G1x skimmer on the market!

3) I realize tank size is subjective, but I do believe there is some objective size minimum for certain fish. Having started out with a 90 gallon, I can see significant differences in the "quality of life" of larger fish, particularly active swimmers.

Again, the fish look fat and happy, it's the miracle tank.

I have to agree with ESQ. Especially with the X-hatch pair. A pair should be in a tank more like a 300 IMO. The fish look really happy though. How old is the tank? How often do you do water changes? Tim

tank has been up and running over 3 years,I do about a 30% change every 2 weeks,I have no complaints on skimmer performance,I also run ozone thru a reactor,I'll work on somemore pics of puffy and the crosshatches...
