Tank position for montipora capricornis

Hi Folks,

Not being the most experienced or knowlegable when it comes to SPS, could someone tell me please where best to locate this coral in the tank.

The tank is 8x2x2, with 250W SE MH lighting. Is it ok to position these near the bottom? The MH lamps are about 8" above water surface.

Thanks

Matt

not caps, high flow isnt really needed and high light isnt either, mid way and out of direct flow will be fine. make sure it has enough flow to keep it clear of debris

Keep in mind shadowing as well. As it grows, it will shadow everything under it. Be sure not to put it at a place that will shadow prime coral placement spots someday.

place it low or it will take over and shade everything. to give you an idea in a little over 6 months mine went from 1.5 in frag to a 8x8in colony with multiple scrolls and layers...

As far as the growth rate...... sounds good.

I've had mine now for a few months, and while growth has been noticeable, it is not phanominal - though my system needs considerable "tweeking" (read that as over all).

I have two, an orange one and a green one - the thing is that the underside of them is quite ugly, while the nice side is cool, so I want them lower so that the inside can be viewed a bit better :-)

THanks.

i somewhat disagree with this, my monties that are in high flow areas grow much faster, and scroll in more intresting patterns then my low flow areas. Also, IMO, they like lots of good light, but the bottom of the tank with your powerfull lights is plently. I agree with placing them low to prevent them shading other corals below them. I also think they should always be placed low at first to help them aclimate better to the tank. I try to keep all my SPS in high flow areas.
