tank raised octo prices

I just finished converting my reef tank to an octo tank, I've got prebuilt caves and an acrylic cover that is held down with nylon bolts. My LFS can get me a tank raised "assorted" octopus for $72. Is this a reasonable price? as I recall bimac's are easy to breed in captivity, do you sopose since it's tank raised it's a bimac?

So $72 sounds about right. Sweet! I'm excited. Since it's tank raised it should live fairly long shouldn't it? I would assume it's probably under 3-4 months old, guess it's hard to tell till I get it.

It should have a lifespan of 12-24 months. If it is a Bimac the only way to get it to live 2 years is with a chiller set to about 60 degrees. Since it is tank raised you can try to bug your LFS to find try and find out when it was born, but their supplier may not know either. You can't really tell age from size either, it varies with temperature and feeding schedule.

I actually work at the LFS I will be getting it at, and I don't think the supplier would know when it was born. A bimac is tropical isn't it?

No, they need colder water. Take the heater out of the tank for sure, and you can cool it further with fans or a chiller. Room temperature is usually fine but warmer temps make the octo live shorter.

wow. i amazed at how much your guys LFS sells them for.
You can buy them here for 29.99 at our LFS. most likely cuase i live in FL but hey. 80 bucks? thats nuts..
