Tank reboot

I was on the verge of getting out of the hobby 2 weeks ago when my beautiful beloved clam died. It was completely my fault it died. I forgot that clams don't like GFO and I left it running while I went out of town for a week for work. Since I have been reinvigorated with getting my complete system overhauled and back in Tip-Top running shape. Many months ago an electrical Spike came through my cable internet and destroyed everything that was hardwired to the system a couple of TV's my modem my router and above all every single piece of equipment from Neptune Apex. The cable company would not claim responsibility so since then I have been very haphazardly keeping my tank afloat. When I get home from this week of working out of town I should have a majority of the main pieces to my Apex system to have it up and fully functioning again. I've lost a large portion of my Coral collection. I am going to tear down one of my frag tanks to simplify my life some. Hopefully with several more large water changes everything will be back in line. The only thing that is out of whack right now is my phosphates and I attribute most of that to my large clam dying and the fact that I have not been running a skimmer for around a year now.

On a side note the club does need some volunteers to reach out to places for donations.

stay diligent on keeping things simple. Tough lesson to learn.
Im working so hard to learn from my mistakes in the past and others when i setup my larger system. Thanks for taking the courage to post!

Its those little things and being complacent that usually leads to large tank fails :( Reading lots of stories on "old tank syndrome".

Sorry to hear about the clam. It stinks and is discouraging when we lose stuff. I was discouraged and ready to get out when my tank was on a two year downhill slide, but with a little helpful advice and some slightly modified maintenance rituals, my tank is on the mend and growing coral again. Unfortunately setbacks are normal in this hobby, it's how we deal with them that counts.

I have been there! About two years ago when I killed my clam I felt the exact same way. Glad you staying in the hobby buddy!

It sucks losing your pets. I've lost a few giant clams over the years in the 18-24" range, not sure why. Losing all of my 40 plus fish when a Ritteri anemone got shredded in a Tunze 6205 was my worst and saddest loss. Many of those fish were 15 plus years old.
