Tank Restart - change anything?

Hi All

My tank has been overrun by a variety of zoas that is not all that colorful and is smothering my acros, montis, and pretty much any other coral near it. I am going to get mostly new rock and effectively restart my tank. I am trying to think of anything I should change since this will give me an opportunity to do so... I would like to hear from the community what you would change if you were restarting. Thanks!

Sand? I Jist re did my jbj24 .it crashed so was time to put new clean sand mixed with some of the existing one..hll was super dirty even tho cant see it

Sand for sure and if you have a sump, a thorough clean-out.

I wouldn't every do Kalk again. Seizes up the plumbing and pumps. I stopped about 8 months ago -- for good (anyone want about 15lbs of kalk powder?)

I'd probably not use a trough for my sump, though I probably would because of low cost. But it limits what you can do in the sump itself...

Good call with the sand, just grabbed some. No sump, but will do a thorough clean of my HOB refugium and Reef Octo HOB skimmer.

Ostrow - I just do a kalk drip with my topoff water (I have a reservoir in my canopy). I agree though, it wreaks havoc with plumbing!
